With the Olympics looming on the horizon it was only a matter of time before someone raided the archives to bring us a lighthearted take on the history of the games. That someone turned out to be Richard Bacon, who alongside Colin Jackson counts down 50 of the most memorable moments of the modern games.
Ranging from historic achievements like Steve Redgrave’s remarkable five-gold-medal haul to the hapless figure of Eric “the Eel” Moussambani who swam the slowest heat in Olympic history, it’s a mixture of the sublime and the ridiculous that will whet the appetite before the games get under way in just a few days’ time.
