Here’s a sight to behold: Homer is Don Draper! Yes, in this Mad Men pastiche we get to see what Jon Hamm would look like if he were yellow, bald and had a monstrous beer belly. By one of those odd plot contrivances, Homer gets himself promoted to the executive building, where he is schooled in the soulless hard-drinking and womanising of the “accounts man” by his predecessor (Mad Men’s John Slattery playing, well, Mad Men’s Roger Sterling).

The homage is lovingly done - there are no full-out belly laughs - thanks perhaps to the presence of proscriptive MM head honcho Matthew Wiener, who also has a small guest role.

About this programme

7/22. Homer is made accounts manager at the power plant after he and Marge throw a hugely successful party to promote Krusty's own brand of liquor. A veteran accountant takes him under his wing and shows him what life is like in the corner office, but it is not long before the perks of the position start to wear thin. Meanwhile, Bart develops an unlikely interest in classic novels. Guest starring John Slattery (Mad Men).
