Ah, Wendy Crozier. It’s a name that conjures up a potent era in the Street’s history, when Ken was at the editor’s desk of the now defunct Weatherfield Recorder, eagerly awaiting the memos that council secretary Wendy had squirrelled away from confidential meetings.
Pretty soon, his mole became his lover, leading to an almighty bust-up over Christmas 1989 that saw Deirdre confront Ken over his extra-marital affair. Over 20 years later and Wendy is just a faded notch on the Barlow bedpost, Ken having long resigned himself to a life of stuffed marrow and god-awful ceramics with Deirdre.
But all this could well change after Ken is drafted in at the last minute to stand for chairman of governors at Bessie Street School. No prizes for guessing who his rival for the job turns out to be.
