So far it seems that Julie loves Aaron because he reads Jonathan Franzen novels and, what’s more, enjoys them, which is one way of choosing a life partner.
As the enjoyably torrid Leaving ends it unfortunately doesn’t have the courage of its own convictions. Julie (Helen McCrory), wounded and humiliated by her dull husband, wonders what to do for the best as she goes home to the hoovering.
Her much younger lover Aaron (Callum Turner) is more focused and decides that he and Julie must be together in a love nest. Poor, trusting Aaron thinks all will be well, but he has more faith in the future than his trapped, tormented girlfriend.
