The rigours of baking under pressure are always challenging for the contestants, but in this episode they are particularly acute. Judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry make a big Bake Off decision, the first of its kind, which they announce to the very nervous and surprised hopefuls. No, we’re not telling you what it is.
But the important thing is the baking and it’s the sweet dough contest, where the bakers create regional buns for the signature round, before Paul Hollywood donates one of his own recipes (jam doughnuts) to the technical challenge, while the showstopper involves gargantuan doughy loaves.
About this programme
7/10. The contestants are tasked with creating signature buns from their home regions, before Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins reveal the latest technical challenge - recreating Paul Hollywood's recipe for jam doughnuts. The showstopper task sees them baking an enriched dough loaf fit for a grand celebration, before the judges decide which bakers haven't quite risen to the challenge.
