The classical piano contest that comes round every three years gets an extended celebration on BBC4. It has produced as many great players from the ranks of its runners-up as from its winners, so pay close attention as Suzy Klein profiles each of the six finalists and we get to hear their concerto performances in full.
Just because the judges end up favouring one player (last time it was Russian Sofya Gulyak, the first female winner) doesn’t mean they’re right. The series looks at the qualities needed to be a top concert classical pianist. Who better to talk about that than competition “ambassador” Lang Lang?
