One of the main conundrums of Celebrity MasterChef is what the contenders talk about back stage with John and Gregg. Are there debates about agents’ fees and champagne, because they’re all celebrities, or is it about butter sauces and seasonal vegetables? They’re probably too exhausted to say anything.
Tonight’s the final, and the last three have been through the culinary equivalent of hell and high water in the run-up. Working in the catering truck on the set of New Tricks, making their version of the brilliant pastry chef Claire Clark’s two-tiered chocolate celebration cake, and getting to grips with French chef Alexis Gauthier’s bewildering methods to cook for a glittering chef’s table has led them here. They have two hours to produce their best three-course meal, before one is given the title. The book deal and cookery show are optional, but likely.
