If you’re missing the summer, try a meander in the Med. This leisurely but seductive series sees Salvo conduct his ultra-polite investigations amid the sun-bleached apartments and craggy coastlines of southern Sicily.Where Poirot has his little grey cells, il commissario is fuelled by blue-sky thinking, which kicks in this week at the sight of a funeral with just one man in the cortège. A little light quizzing leads the inspector from the murder of a construction magnate to a love triangle, a 20-year-old trial and the Mafia. But it’s spadework specialist Fazio and the pratfalling Catarella who make the breakthroughs.
An ultimately haunting tale, it even tosses in a recipe for pasta with broccoli that sounds delizioso.
