Even Radio 1 DJ Reggie Yates can’t help but crack up when his interviewee – a woman with Tourettes – involuntarily yells “Reggie has a wedgie!” while they stroll Camden’s streets. Later, he rails against the passers-by who snigger at her tics.
A couple of years ago Yates presented an award-winning programme about a music concert with a difference: the acts were all autistic. Now he’s encouraging youngsters with Tourettes to brave the stage whereupon – as if by magic – their tics disappear. This documentary, a three-parter, gives a rare insight into a syndrome too often scoffed at and misunderstood.
About this programme
Reggie Yates faces problems as he rehearses the young performers with Tourette's syndrome for the show, with one of the six arriving with a bandaged hand and another suffering from severe nerves. He turns to pop stars Ed Sheeran, Eliza Doolittle and Aloe Blacc for advice on how to turn things around and help the singers stage a successful event.
