Soggy bottom alert because, according to Paul Hollywood, “it’s all about the pastry”. The remaining eight bakers are making pies: Wellingtons (not the ones you wear in the rain although it does look a bit wet outside the Bake Off tent), a hand-raised pie and a spectacular American pie. It’s a classic example of how someone can completely screw up one challenge only to romp away with the next. This week’s star baker looks a cert to be sent home until his/her show-stopper. It’s one of the best things Mary and Paul have tasted in any series of GBBO and gets Mary rushing home to make it herself.
About this programme
5/14. The remaining contestants' pie-making skills are put to the test in a trio of demanding tasks. First, the hopefuls try to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry by making beef Wellington, before creating hand-raised pies during this week's technical challenge - but several of the cooks run into difficulties as they try to work with a pastry dolly for the first time. Finally, the showstopper challenge sees traditional American pies being prepared - before one more baker is eliminated from the competition.
