Another satisfying case for our two high-tech guardian angels this week. It would be a shame to reveal how exactly their challenge unfolds, but it involves a noble judge and a crime gang full of sinister Eastern European thugs: you can probably guess which of these John Reese is helping out.
The drama often flirts with hokeyness but never quite goes all the way. Instead it gives us movie-ish stories and the charismatic odd-couple pairing of Jim Caviezel as Reese (soulful, whispering, lethal) and Michael Emerson as Finch (blinking, geeky, deep).
The chemistry between the two of them is nicely understated and tonight they edge very slightly closer.

5/23. Reese tracks judge Samuel Gates, who has been identified by the machine, and realises he is in need of protection - but as his investigation gets under way, the man's son is kidnapped by a gang trying to influence the outcome of a court case. Reese then decides to call on Detective Fusco for assistance - not realising he is now working with Joss Carter, who has been taking a keen interest in Finch's activities. Guest starring David Costabile (The Wire).
