With his carefully pruned designer stubble and bronzed good looks, Richard Reed could be mistaken for an ageing boy-band member or a catalogue model. In fact, he’s the man who made millions out of Innocent Smoothies. Now he wants to invest in the next big thing, and has invited 500 budding entrepreneurs to pitch their weird, wonderful and occasionally downright bonkers ideas.
Yes, this is Dragons’ Den without the talons; instead there are endless shots of Reed furrowing his brow and looking pained as he crushes dreams. Those who impress receive a modest “seed fund”, and must use that to turn their grand plans into hard cash, in the hope of wringing a further £50,000 out of Reed.
