The workshop failed to entice investors, so is the Marilyn musical dead? Eileen and Derek forge a new direction that songwriters Julia and Tom are not to know about: record producer Ryan Tedder (playing himself) is called in to write for chorus girl Karen. Touch Me is a fabulous, high-octane dance number but wholly inappropriate for the show and leads to a blistering row between Tom and Derek, perhaps the only homophobe in the history of musical theatre.
For this episode only, Grace Gummer (real-life offspring of Meryl Streep) plays Eileen’s daughter, “Mahatma” Katie, an eco-warrior who cuts through her warring parents’ nonsense. Also prepare to chuckle at some less-than-subtle Apple product placement.
About this programme
8/15. Following an inconclusive workshop, Derek plots to take control of the production - and enlists Karen to work on a secret project without telling her colleagues. Julia has mixed feelings about Michael leaving the cast, Ivy frets as she waits to learn if she will still play Marilyn, and Eileen gets a surprise visit from her daughter Katie. With a guest appearance by OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder.
