Cameras have been following provocative conservationist Paul Watson and his Sea Shepherd organisation for years as they take direct action to stop whaling. So as they head to the Faroe Islands to stir up the water over the islanders’ annual grind, in which pilot whales are herded on to beaches and slaughtered, we get a new series filled with drama, conflict and subterfuge.
Critics complain that Watson upsets local people’s traditions just to raise his profile and earnings, but here we learn the Faroese perspective: the whales are killed for meat, and the grind is legal.
