The series ends in typically uncompromising style. No other programme can pack half an hour’s worth of documentary with such a weight of human misery. If you assume the nightly TV news gives a rounded view of things, Unreported World is a weekly slap in the face.
Tonight’s well-aimed blow comes from reporter Ramita Navai, who finds mothers in the town of El Progreso, Honduras, mourning hundreds of vanished daughters. They are routinely recruited and imprisoned by traffickers who take them to work in the Mexican sex industry. There, it’s no good going to the police for help: they’re regular clients.
About this programme
Reporter Ramita Navai and director Talya Tibbon travel to Honduras in Central America, where they investigate the mysterious disappearance of hundreds of women. They discover many of them were allegedly enticed to Mexico with the promise of jobs, but were actually forced to work in the sex industry. Last in the series.
