Euros' Most Shocking Moments

Radio Times
Review by:
Geoff Ellis

Not much to shock, but a lot of amusement and some silliness in this football list show hosted by Richard Bacon and former England goalkeeper David James. My candidates for number one slot are mainly picked from Euro 96, especially that win over Holland and Stuart Pearce’s penalty against Spain. That said, nothing comes close to Marco van Basten’s volleyed goal for Holland in the 1988 final. Contributors include Jaap Stam, Peter Schmeichel and some entertainers, inexplicably including Uri Geller.

About this programme

Richard Bacon and David James count down the most inspirational, ridiculous and surprising incidents from the past 20-plus years of the European Football Championships. They include England's warm-up game against Aylesbury in 1988, Stuart Pearce scoring his penalty against Spain in the Euro 96 quarter-final, and the Germans later winning the trophy at Wembley. With contributions from Frankie Cocozza, Reverend and the Makers, Ricky Norwood, Jaap Stam, Peter Schmeichel, Uri Geller, Alan Smith and Stefan Kuntz.
