The 16 Year Old Killer: Cyntoia's Story

In 2004, 16-year-old Cyntoia Brown shot dead a man who had picked her up for sex in Nashville, Tennessee. Film-maker Daniel Birman had access to Brown after her arrest and follows her pitiful story over the next six years. There is a great tension between the tale of Brown’s early life, the sexual abuse she suffered, her family’s history of mental illness and the courtroom scenes of her trial. The wider question is about rehabilitation versus incarceration, but the most poignant comes from Brown’s adoptive mother: “Where was I?”
