Plan B fitted right in last time he was in the Later… studio: the 2010 album The Defamation of Strickland Banks re-cast the rapper as an authentic soul crooner.
But his latest project, iLL Manors, is a different beast, and beast is the word. The title track, previewed to instant clamour in March, is a focused howl of fury from Austerity Britain’s demonised underclass, with not a tasteful trumpet in sight. This is a chance to hear his new manifesto straight from the source.

Also in Jools’s ellipse of excellence this week: the jumpy, minimalist psychedelia of Django Django, Salford’s Ren Harvieu, jazzy American chanteuse Melody Gardot and, in a smooth bit of BBC cross-promotion, Tom Jones.

Psychedelic quartet Django Django perform material from their self-titled release, Salford's Ren Harvieu makes her first appearance on the show, and Melody Gardot showcases songs from new album The Absence. Tom Jones takes time out from his coaching role on The Voice UK to perform tunes from Spirit in the Room, and bluegrass band Punch Brothers take to the stage with a track from Who's Feeling Young Now?, the album they released in February.
