“My vegetarian diet doesn’t feel like deprivation,” asserted Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall when this series was first shown in 2011, but I‘m sure I noticed him eyeing up the ducks hungrily when he went to collect a few of their eggs. He’s looking back at his summer of vegetarianism in this updated series and here sets out to prove that a meat-and-fish-free diet can provide him with enough energy, even after a hard day’s graft. And we’re talking proper physical exertion, not just some gentle chopping in the kitchen. The food looks gorgeous. Hugh wearing a wetsuit and buttercup-yellow swimcap to go wild swimming is less attractive.
About this programme
4/14. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall tries to keep up with a mostly vegetarian wild-swimming team in the water. However, he finds that he makes a better cook than a river racer as he prepares pesto, pasta and potato salad and a hearty stew in his new role as club cook.
