Andre Rieu: Romantic Moments

Radio Times
Review by:
Gill Crawford

With his windswept hair, colourful Johann Strauss Orchestra and no fear of schmaltz whatsoever, Dutch conductor/violinist André Rieu is not to everyone’s taste. But for those with a yearning for the romantic light classics, he’s a master, and his albums sell in their millions.

In this special, filmed in Majorca (and often in soft focus, as if the director were pitching for a Timotei account), the repertoire extends from Nino Rota’s Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet to Dvorak’s Lied an den Mond. If you’re looking for music to soothe away the cares of the week, this is a gentle place to stop.
