It may not be, so far at least, the most benign of summers for outdoor eating, but as and when the sun kicks in, Jamie Oliver wants us ready. And he wants us creative. Among the ideas in tonight’s programme, there are thin strips of beef cooked – one side only – on rocks warmed in a campfire. Or a classic Jamie ruse for cooking fish that involves spearing it with a bendy twig and then suspending the twig over a fire by clever-but-simple means. This is what Jamie christens “barbecue jamming” and it’s inspiring and cheery. Plus, if there’s a quicker, easier way to knock up flatbread than Jamie’s, I’d be amazed.
About this programme
1/3. Jamie Oliver showcases some of his favourite and most inventive outdoor recipes. In the first programme, he cooks an Indian dosa in his festival camp kitchen, and makes jerk chicken with jalapeno flatbreads for musician Jazzie B from Soul II Soul. He is joined by fellow chef Gennaro Contaldo as he prepares skewered fish over a fire and sliced beef on hot rocks, before sharing chilli chocolate and churros with entrepreneur Willie Harcourt-Cooze and DJ Norman Jay. Plus, music from Soul II Soul and the Guillemots.
