This series isn’t the bloodbath its title implies. The fact that the venue for the semi-finals is called the Battle Kitchen belies the fact that nobody is coming to blows here. What the chefs and their partners are doing, mostly quite calmly, is crafting a three-course meal for
25 diners apiece, against the clock and against each other.
The contenders here include a former head chef at the Ritz who left to set up a London gastropub with his fiancée. They are up against two best friends who met at school and now run Spanish/Moroccan-themed El Cantara in Soho; and finally there’s a father and son-in-law duo who run the Old Bakery in Lincoln.
About this programme
4/7. The restaurateur presents the second semi-final as three duos, two from central London and one from Lincoln, cook a three-course meal and serve it to 25 diners against the clock. But with only enough ingredients to make the required number of portions, one slip-up means they will not be able to replace the dish in question. Who has the skills, stamina and strategy to make it through to the final?
