Jane Rackham

Once you’ve set up a B&B in your magnificent but semi-derelict stately home, created a tea room and organised house tours, what’s left to do to meet the huge running costs and pay off debts of nearly a million euros? This is the problem facing the Shelswell-White family in County Cork. Bantry House has been in the family for over 300 years but now they desperately need to turn it from a money-pit into a money-spinner.

Simon Davis works his magic again, suggesting creative ways to generate money all year round including craft fairs, a fado festival and a pop-up restaurant in conjunction with Irish chef Richard Corrigan.

About this programme

Simon Davis visits Bantry House on the west coast of Ireland and meets owners Egerton and Brigitte Shelswell-White, who have dedicated much of their lives to turning the property into a family home and business. However, with the couple relying heavily on seasonal tourism for income, the entrepreneur is faced with the task of providing solutions with a minimal budget.
