The floppy hair, dazzling teeth, super-fit body and proven sense of humour must get women throwing themselves at comedian John Bishop, remarks Kirsty Young towards the end of this very moving interview. Bishop laughs and points out how bad the timing is for his new-found sex appeal, now that he’s got back together with the only woman he has ever really been in love with — his wife.

For over a year they were living in different houses with him seeing their three children at weekends, but she never signed the decree nisi and, in a moment that will bring a tear to even the most pragmatic eye, he almost bursts with delight as he recalls them reuniting as a couple. Truly heart-warming.
