Any radio drama that has Roy Hudd in the cast list is going to be worth a listen and this inventive new play by Colin Bytheway does not disappoint. Without wishing to spoil one of the key twists of the story, which occurs about halfway through the action, to say that there’s an element of The Sixth Sense at work is enough to entice anyone who enjoys a psychological thriller.
Hudd plays Vic, a lonely old man who is dying of cancer but finds comfort in the upbeat, positive approach of Katie-Ann, an 11-year-old girl who is being treated for leukaemia on the same ward and who keeps a blog of her experience. When an unfulfilled and angry young writer enters their lives and tries to exploit their stories, events take a disturbing change until a final tragic truth is revealed.
