Radio 1 presenter Chris Moyles presides over a gag-tastic gala at the Hackney Empire. The former music hall, which in the past has been threatened with demolition, counts Charlie Chaplin, Stan Laurel and Marie Lloyd among its alumni, and so is a suitably distinguished setting for a plum event in the cultural Olympiad calendar.
As well as home-grown Hackney comedians, the line-up includes impish Irish funnyman Jason Byrne, topical wit Andrew Maxwell, the wry if rarely side-splitting Ava Vidal, Mock the Week regular Mark Watson and the gloriously off-the-wall Josie Long. The whole evening has been edited down to half an hour of highlights, so expect comedy gold.
