Carrie fans, prepare for a shock. We see our poor heroine more bruised and vulnerable than ever, mentally and physically scarred by last episode’s disaster.
As Saul visits her in hospital, he meets the full force of her mood disorder: Carrie’s injuries have jolted her into a manic phase that Claire Danes makes feverishly convincing. As she gabbles and raves, her racing-car brain is tracing patterns and theories about Abu Nazir, chasing ideas down rabbit holes. Is she deranged or can Saul find method to her madness?
It’s a storyline that is heartbreakingly well painted by the writers, while in what feels like another world, Brody takes his family on a wholesome trip to Gettysburg. But there, too, events take a dark turn. This is enthralling, shockingly good television, and the next episode is the season finale. Don’t miss it.
