There’s so much to love about Homeland. It’s dark and strange and complicated and its plot toys with us like a kitten toys with wool. If most series flipped our expectations as often as Homeland does, we’d rebel. We’d disengage and stomp off in a huff. But Homeland keeps drawing us in, making us care deeply about its bruised characters, even when we’re far from sure which side of the line they’re on.
Most bruised of all is Marine Sgt Nicholas Brody, the enigma our heroine Carrie is always trying to unwrap (in more ways than one...) Except that for now Carrie has turned her attention to pursuing another rogue marine, which leaves us to learn about what makes Brody tick, and for the first time to glimpse his real motivation. In the previous episode he roared at the Saudi diplomat guy, “I’m through talking with Nazir”, but Nazir is not through with him.
About this programme
9/12. Brody tries to sever his ties with Abu Nazir, only to find himself reliving his time in captivity and painfully reminded of a tragic loss. Carrie gets embroiled in a public-relations nightmare following the mosque shooting, and when Estes refuses her underhand plan to get the imam to talk, she finds answers from an unexpected source. Damian Lewis, Claire Danes and David Harewood star.
