A rather unsettling way to prepare to sleep but please do not be put off listening to Deborah Levy’s new novel — her first in 15 years. It’s about the arrival of an odd girl in the midst of a typical middle-class holiday in France and the effects she has upon two families sharing a villa. It’s haunting and strangely mesmeric.
