It’s best to look upon Whitechapel as a weird kind of escapism; that way you won’t mind when each story falls head-first into idiocy. In an East End teeming with clever serial killers copying historic murder sprees, the latest case is still stumping uptight, personality-free DI Chandler and his team.
Someone is poisoning, then chopping up women before dumping the bits in the Thames; serial-killer hobbyist Buchan (Steve Pemberton) is in his cellar, throwing out suggestions. Perhaps the murderer is an acolyte of the Marquis de Sade, he wonders. By the end, it doesn’t really matter; it’s just another stylish mystery with an empty heart.
About this programme
