It’s only episode two of this Sicilian import but there’s already a breezy air of confidence about it. The Voice of the Violin, based on Andrea Camillieri’s fourth book, relates the case of a gorgeous Bolognese woman found naked and strangled in a holiday villa. Salvo Montalbano jumps on the investigation before anybody else, but is hampered by bungling officers from a neighbouring district and may also be falling for the allure of Anna, a friend of the deceased.
The story also satisfyingly touches on elements introduced in the last episode. We find out what became of the orphaned Tunisian boy that Salvo and his phone-slamming girlfriend Livia were hoping to adopt. And Signora Vasile, the observant old lady in a wheelchair, again proves invaluable.
About this programme
The detective arrives at a villa where a woman has been found murdered, but before he can start an investigation the case is taken from him and given to Panzacchi, a rival inspector from a nearby district. However, Montalbano is still determined to get to the bottom of the mystery, and grows increasingly frustrated as his inattentive colleague looks set to convict the wrong suspect. Italian crime drama, starring Luca Zingaretti.
