This transatlantic take on Lynda La Plante’s crime drama didn’t fare too well in the States (it’s already been axed). But Maria Bello’s interpretation of a character immortalised by Helen Mirren is worth a look. Here, the self-destructive Jane Tennison becomes the rough-edged, trilby-wearing Jane Timoney. As in the UK version, Timoney lobbies brazenly for promotion following a fellow cop’s heart attack. But the story reaches a tidy, pat conclusion in 60 minutes, which feels a world away from the slow-burn tension of Tennison’s cases.
About this programme
1/13. Crime drama, starring Maria Bello as Jane Timoney, a New York police detective struggling to make her mark in a male-dominated homicide squad. Her frustration at continually being passed over for cases grows when she realises her colleagues are mishandling a new murder investigation - but her blunt approach to pointing out their errors causes more friction. With Brian F O'Byrne, Aidan Quinn and Peter Gerety.
