The working title was Naked Britain, because the idea is to strip back our landscape and see what lies beneath. Hugh Dennis (yes, from Outnumbered and Mock the Week) and Julia Bradbury explore the geology that shaped the best-loved bits of Britain, starting in Devon and Cornwall with a basket of Coast-style items on hedges, clay mines, tors and fossils.
Among the revelations is a reminder that Dartmoor only looks the way it does because humans stripped away the trees. Elsewhere, CGI and metaphors involving duvets and lasagne help us understand the rock layers, while Dennis goes on a John Noakes-ish trip to a lighthouse.
About this programme
1/4. Hugh Dennis and Julia Bradbury travel across Britain to explore its landscapes and the people who live in them, as well as how they have been shaped by the country's varied geological history. Beginning in Cornwall and Devon, Hugh jumps into the Atlantic from a granite clifftop, tries to land in a dangerously placed helipad and retraces the steps of King Arthur at Tintagel Castle. Meanwhile, Julia learns about Cornwall's surfing tradition, and ventures into one of the spookiest areas of Dartmoor.
