In episode two of this superior melodrama, proud, blowsy Frannie wakes up in her great big gated house to find bailiffs on her drive. The trappings of her comfortable life are seized and she and her two spoilt kids are about to be evicted. Her time-serving, drug dealer husband Paul (Iain Glen) is powerless to help her.
Marvellous Polly Walker is at her best as Frannie, a woman who is in her own kind of prison. Though her partner is banged up, she has to be at home in case he phones and her every move has to be accounted for. So she finds a new kind of freedom when she gets a job as a cleaner. But her liberation comes at a price.
Meanwhile for sweet, scared, heavily pregnant Gemma, whose husband is on remand for murder, life is also changing as she becomes an accomplice in her beloved’s attempts to dodge justice.
