Whitechapel

Series 3 - Episode 2

Whitechapel doesn’t know what it wants to be – a supernatural thriller or a crime drama, so it ends up being a bit of both. This splicing of the corporeal and the spiritual doesn’t work well as we reach the solution to the mystery of who is re-creating the infamous Ratcliffe Highway massacres.

And, considering Whitechapel CID is on the trail of a serial killer who is leaving an awful lot of bloody messes around the East End, the squad room is oddly quiet. Detectives have time to go to the pub and DI Chandler (Rupert Penry-Jones) is even cajoled into taking part in a pub quiz. But never mind, because the solution pretty much falls from the sky.

About this programme

2/6. Part two of two. The case takes on an almost supernatural edge when a second mass murder occurs, with no obvious signs of a break-in, no escape route and no forensics left at the scene. Chandler, Miles and the team unearth more about the infamous Ratcliffe Highway murders of 1811, hoping to avoid making the same mistakes and solve the case before further lives are lost. Crime thriller, starring Rupert Penry-Jones, Phil Davis and Steve Pemberton.
