The old warhorse enters a new era with its first story since the departure of executive producer Brian True-May. True-May, who’d been with the drama since the start in 1997, provoked a storm with comments to RT about the lack of ethnic minorities in the crime drama, which he described as the “last bastion of Englishness”.
But don’t expect DCI Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) to be seconded to a murder investigation in Nigeria just yet. He’s still in Midsomer, puzzling over the death of a toff who plunges from the roof of a stately home after seeing a headless horseman. It’s the start of a killing spree that cuts a swathe through an aristocratic family.
