Don't Blame the Dog

Series 1 - 1. Anti Rhino-Poaching Dogs, South Africa

This programme is a little like BBC3’s earlier canine series, Dog Borstal, except that it’s the owners who are sent to training camp.

Holly treats her pug like a dolly, but has absolutely no control over her, while cocky Mikki just wants
his Staffie to get him respect on the streets of east London, and doesn’t even use a lead on his dog.

The two owners are sent to South Africa to see some of the world’s best-trained dogs at work and to learn how to take charge of their own four-legged friend.

You may find the methods of dog-handler Henry unacceptably tough, but Holly and Mikki, like so many ignorant dog owners, certainly need to be taught a lesson.

About this programme

1/6. Documentary in which the owners of poorly behaved canines spend a week with people who depend on the animals for survival or as part of their jobs, an experience it is hoped could prompt them to become better keepers of their pets. In the first edition, Holly, who paints her dog's nails and Mikki, who is `bite training' his four-legged friend for protection, visit people who work with dogs trained to track down rhino poachers in South Africa.
