It’s Cameron’s birthday. But he was born on a Leap Day, which means he’s either ten (as he claims) or 40 (as Mitch prefers). Either way, Mitch has to cook up something pretty special by way of a party, which he does, before a gloriously farcical realisation means he has to trash the whole brilliant scheme.
It’s one of two and a half great storylines (the Gloria and Jay one is, not for the first time, slightly weaker) in an episode that starts slowly but – don’t worry – works up a head of steam. Whether men or women will find the Claire/Phil thread funnier, I wouldn’t like to guess. Poor put-upon Phil: “The day I most dreaded has fallen on the day I most loved!”
About this programme
17/24. Cameron seizes the opportunity to celebrate his birthday, which only comes around once every four years, so the pressure is on Mitchell to organise an occasion to remember. Phil's day is ruined by the female members of his family, who are all feeling emotional, while Jay tries to assert his manhood when it is called into question. American comedy, starring Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Ty Burrell.
