Twice the height of pioneering chef Ferran Adrià and almost as excitable, Anthony Bourdain is an incongruous sight in the kitchens of El Bulli. He visited in the final days of this boundary-pushing restaurant, which is now closed for its transformation into a culinary foundation.
Reading about Adrià’s dishes just can’t compare to watching them being created on screen; as Bourdain sausage-fingers his way through part of a kitchen shift, there are glimpses of the skills required to be part of Adrià’s elite brigade. Watch for Bourdain’s jaw dropping as a firestack of black truffle is grated onto his plate.
