About this programme

3/5. The presenter learns how people in the past believed demons, sprites and God were to blame for disease, and sought cures in prayer, potions and magic. He tries to re-create a horrifying surgical procedure from the Stone Age that involved making a hole in a skull to provide an escape route for evil spirits, and finds out whether being immersed in the blood of slaughtered animals can lead to a miraculous recovery from illness.
