In 2010, Channel 4 filmed five Amish teenagers as they left their closed community for an extraordinary cultural exchange trip with some British teens who, by comparison, were a rowdy lot. It was a remarkable, eye-opening series.

Now six British teens make the return journey. It’s obvious some haven’t done their homework. “Do you ever have takeaways?” asks one girl and is genuinely surprised at the blank look this gets. But the Amish are amazingly patient with them. Their young hosts Jonathan and Marietta, in particular, appear to be the kindest, most charming couple imaginable.

They begin at Middlefield, Ohio, where they meet a family who want to teach them that, despite the lack of material possessions, life can be equally fulfilling.
