Here’s the latest “constructed” or “scripted” reality show — as the unfathomably popular The Only Way Is Essex and its upmarket successor Made in Chelsea have been christened. In other words, it’s about as lifelike as the terracotta tans, straightened bleached blonde locks, acrylic fingernails and foot-long eyelashes that adorn the so-called Scousewives of Liverpool.

The first instalment introduces ambitious stylist Jodie and model Layla, who’s having an on-off relationship with a bloke as primped and preened as her. Meanwhile, another model has a run-in with her archenemy, a showbiz blogger, at a glitzy awards do. Prepare for big personalities and even bigger eyelashes.
