It’s taken this show four years to creep across the Atlantic from the US, where it’s into its fifth series. There’s nothing particularly new here – it’s filmed in mock-documentary style, something done so much better by The Office and Modern Family.
But star Amy Poehler is sweetly appealing as Leslie Knope, passive-aggressive deputy director of parks and recreation in the quiet fictional town of Pawnee. In the opening double bill, Leslie lobbies her bizarre boss to develop a park on the site of a derelict pit. There are funny touches, like the bloodthirsty murals in the town hall, but it all feels a bit thin.
