According to Danny Wallace’s narration, Britain is “a nation of eccentrics”. But we’re also a fine example of what too much hedonism can do to your brain. For example, Chanel from Bristol is planning a burlesque extravaganza but thinks she can book Tim Westwood as DJ for £200, while Barrow-in-Furness’s Danielle (often to be heard rhyming with “bloody ’ell!”) reminisces about shindigs that have ended in drunken violence. This series, from the makers of Big Fat Gypsy Weddings, pulls off the same trick of being both celebratory and slightly sneery, although here there’s more of a sense of desperation.
