John Myatt has set himself a challenging task: replicating the virtuosity of John Singer Sargent’s Lady Agnew of Lochnaw in just one day. Handily, he’s painting in the same building where Sargent painted his portrait — even using the same easel — and has the luminous Tamsin Greig as his sitter.
As Myatt offers a colourful art-history lesson on Sargent and displays an additional talent at the piano, Greig is charm itself as she throws out glittering, self-deprecating one-liners like so much gold dust on the wind. But when it comes to the big reveal, is her reaction genuine or is she merely acting?
