This session sounds like a big ask for girl-on-the-go Lauren Laverne, who has trouble sitting still and must refrain from tweeting. But before long the bubbly Culture Show host is a picture of Zen-like calm.
No, all the tension comes from artist John Myatt, who must somehow transform his blue-eyed, blonde subject into the green-faced Chinese Girl of Vladimir Tretchikoff’s 1950 kitsch classic. Light source, face shape and lip position all contrive to give Myatt a hard time...
But it’s another peppy art lesson, with great tips on texturing a canvas plus a jaw-to-the-floor footnote about the contrasting fortunes of
the original painter and sitter.
About this programme
4/6. John Myatt paints a portrait of Lauren Laverne in the style of Vladimir Tretchikoff's Chinese Girl, but is forced to change one of the DJ's most notable features.
