When Homeland started,
the obvious point of comparison
was another TV thriller centred on terrorism, 24. By the time it finished, such comparisons felt a bit silly. Homeland was in a different league,
a fully grown-up spy drama with jewel-like characters and storylines made of very clever spaghetti. So if you let it pass you by, take the chance now to bury yourself in the tale of a bipolar CIA agent (Clare Danes) and the hero (Damian Lewis) she believes is an al-Qaeda agent. It’s a superb study in suspicion and betrayal.
About this programme
1/12. US Marine Nicholas Brody is rescued from Afghanistan after eight years in captivity, and returns home to a hero's welcome - but CIA agent Carrie Mathison suspects he is secretly working on behalf of al-Qaeda. However, Carrie's erratic conduct earlier in her career means few people are willing to acknowledge her concerns. Thriller, starring Claire Danes, Damian Lewis, Morena Baccarin, Mandy Patinkin and David Harewood.
