Stanley Jones is one of the unsung heroes of the art world. If you’ve ever admired a lithographic print by Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Paula Rego, David Hockney or Man Ray then you may have been admiring his handiwork.
Jones spearheaded an expansion in British printmaking during the 1960s, reviving the art of lithography, which had been all but lost in Britain since the time of Whistler. Now lithography is under threat again, as an increasing number of art schools disregard the process, and Susan Aldworth takes the opportunity to meet Jones, hear his tales and learn his skills.
