“It’s the worst pain you will have in your life,” says midwife Caroline Lackey, which is hardly reassuring. “Everybody has different perceptions how they’ll cope, but until they go into labour they don’t know because everyone deals with things differently.”

That’s certainly true of the three women in this film. Two barely make a sound throughout: one gives birth in the most serene manner imaginable while the other produces a massive baby weighing nearly ten pounds as if it were nothing.

The third really struggles, however, screaming hysterically in a lengthy and dramatic labour. But you can’t tell who are the quiet ones and who’s the noisy one at the start.
