The secret to grammar school success appears to be, if judged by these talking heads, parental support and enough money to be able to devote time to education. Grammar schools may have existed to provide education to the poor since the 14th century but the focus here is on 20th-century upheavals. David Attenborough is amusing as he recalls what a mischievous tyke he was, but it’s Ella Wright’s still-raw memories of wrong answers in her 11-plus that reveal the opportunities grammar schools held.
